Mission Beach

Friday night in Mission Beach. it's been a very relaxing day. We're staying at a resort here in Mission and there are not many other guests here so it's nice and quiet. We have been sitting on the verandah outside our room having beers almost the whole day. I had hoped for some time on the beach today, but it's been cloudy and a few showers all day, but hopefully better tomorrow. We had a drive for about an hour earlier so at least I got to have a look around this place. marty used to live here some years ago so he knows the sights.

I hoped to see a cassowary too, but none showed up. Otherwise I've been lucky with animals here.
The first day in Australia I saw a wild Koala. It's not very common to see one in the wild. people say that you can live in Oz for 20 years and never see one.
And then I saw not only one, but two platypus (platypusae? still don't know the correct in plural..people say different..) Not many people get to see platypus in the wild.
And when we were in Mallacoota, on Secret Beach we heard something in the bushes and out came a lyrebird! A female one, not the pretty male..but still! Marty said that very few people have actually seen a wild lyrebird, they are very shy. He has lived here all his life and never seen one. They are funny birds, they can imitate almost every sound there is.
So having been lucky to see all those rare animals I really hoped to see a Cassowary. I have already seen one in the Zoo, but that's not the same as seeing a wild one. Maybe tomorrow though..

It went really well with the horseback riding yesterday. i think Genna was happy to see me. I just had to tingle the bridle and she came running to me from across the other end of the paddock. Sadlt the bridle we had was too big for her, it suits lookie but not a pony like Genna. But will try to find Sal's bridle till next time. That would fit her better. But we tried yesterday anyway, and Genna did her best. We had a good time, she is such a nice little horse.

We are going to Port Douglas tomorrow, and after that to Cairns to stay with some friends of marty's.

Mormor's funeral today. Wish I could be there.

Now it's time for a cup of tea and Midsummer murders and then bed time.
